PJ Care Ltd, the award-winning and leading independent provider of specialist nursing care and neuro-rehabilitation services, was rapidly expanding, and enlisted the expertise of Shepherd Interiors to convert an ex call centre.

They wanted to create a day centre which would be a one-stop-shop offering vital neuro-specialist services. The ground floor was allocated to therapy services including a physio gym, a large occupational therapy assessment area and numerous consultation rooms, but they also needed office and training space.

A vital part of the brief was adaptability; PJ Care did not want to be forced to sell if they needed to move. With only six weeks to convert the building the pressure was on.

Our refurbishment team pulled out all the stops to deliver specialist functionality for neurological therapies while ‘designing in’ flexibility that would allow a number of office-based SME tenants to move in at short notice, without substantial reinvestment.

We offered solutions that included:

• interior design and planning
• fire and soundproof partitions – many with windows and blinds
• electrical works
• air conditioning
• supply and install office furniture
• fold-away, soundproof walls
• internal and external windows and blinds
• floor coverings
• decoration

Staff moved into the building on 8 July, and the therapy centre opened in September.

“We all walked in and everything looked fantastic and was simply working. I was so pleased with the end product that I asked Rod if his team would fit out my kitchen at home,” commented Neil Russell at PJ Care.

Plus if PJ Care need to move in the future, then all three floors can be let to individual businesses to future-proof against financial risk.
